Fred Tavan

SVP and Chief Pricing Officer

Fred Tavan is Senior Vice President and Chief Pricing Officer for Banner Life Insurance Company and William Penn Life Insurance Company of New York (the Banner Life family of companies). In this role, Fred leads the organization’s actuarial, underwriting, reinsurance and data science initiatives, driving innovation and collaborating with both internal and external distribution partners. He is focused on helping transform the term life insurance marketplace to make high-value life insurance coverage accessible to as many people and families as possible.

Before joining the Banner Life family of companies, Fred served as Chief Analytics Officer and Chief Innovation Officer at Vida Capital. There, he pioneered advancements in the alternative asset class capital markets by combining actuarial science, risk management, product development, and predictive analytics, utilizing AI to revolutionize underwriting in the longevity risk space.

Previously, Fred was Chief Risk Officer and Chief Actuary at Sun Life US, as well as the global head of insurance risk and reinsurance at Sun Life Financial. He also led Sun Life’s Innovation Lab globally, accelerating innovation across the multinational financial institution.

Fred’s extensive career includes leadership roles at major insurance companies, consulting firms, and global reinsurance organizations. His diverse experience spans innovation, advanced analytics, risk management, reinsurance, mergers and acquisitions, capital management, pricing, planning, forecasting, valuation, taxation, and modeling systems. He has contributed to individual, group, and wealth management lines of business across Canadian, US, UK, and international markets.

Fred is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, the American Academy of Actuaries, and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, and is also a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary.
